About Mold Crown Court

Mold Crown Court sits within the Mold Justice Centre at The Law Courts, Raikes Lane, Mold, Flintshire — a Modernist building completed in October 1969 to a design by county architect Robert Harvey, constructed in distinctive blue brick with Portland stone banding. The court replaced the historic Old County Hall on Chester Street, which had served as the centre of justice in Flintshire since 1834 and still bears bullet marks from the Mold Riots of 1869. Today the Law Courts house both the Crown Court and the County Court, sharing a site with County Hall just north of the town centre.

Cases Heard at Mold Crown Court

As part of the Wales circuit, Mold Crown Court deals with serious criminal matters committed for trial or sentence from magistrates' courts across Flintshire, Denbighshire, Wrexham and parts of Conwy. Cases regularly listed include:

  • Indictable-only offences such as murder, manslaughter, rape and serious assault
  • Either-way offences sent up from Mold Magistrates' Court and neighbouring courts
  • Drug trafficking, fraud and money-laundering prosecutions
  • Appeals against conviction or sentence from magistrates' decisions
  • Confiscation proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002
