About Luton Crown Court
Luton Crown Court is housed in a purpose-built Modernist courthouse on George Street, opened in 1991 and designed by the Property Services Agency. Before this venue was commissioned, serious indictable matters from Bedfordshire were tried at the historic Shire Hall in Bedford; the rising criminal caseload in the south of the county made a dedicated Luton venue essential. The building has four courtrooms, seven interview rooms, an on-site cafeteria and full prison-to-court video link facilities. Its HMCTS Crown Court location code is 476 and the DX is 12050.
