About Maidstone Crown Court
Maidstone Crown Court forms part of the Maidstone Combined Court Centre, a dual-jurisdiction venue that hears both Crown Court (criminal) and County Court (civil and family) matters. The modernist-style building on Barker Road was completed in 1983 and officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in October 1984, replacing the historic court space at County Hall to meet Kent's growing judicial caseload. Designed by the architectural practice Austin-Smith:Lord, the building remains one of the busiest Crown Court centres in the South Eastern Circuit, serving Maidstone, Medway, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Ashford, Sevenoaks and the wider Kent area.

The court is a short walk from Maidstone West railway station (approximately 5 minutes on foot across the River Medway) and around 15 minutes from Maidstone East station, both of which run direct services from London Victoria, London Charing Cross and Ashford International. Drivers using Junction 5 of the M20 can reach Barker Road in roughly 10 minutes; paid public parking is available at Lockmeadow and the Sittingbourne Road multi-storey, as the court itself does not offer visitor parking. Arriva and Stagecoach bus routes serving the town centre stop within a short walk of the building.
Facilities at the Court
Maidstone Combined Court Centre is fully accessible, with step-free entry, lifts to all floors, accessible toilets, ten interview rooms, a portable hearing enhancement system and baby changing facilities. Assistance dogs are welcome, lanyards are available on request, and prison-to-court video link and video conferencing facilities can be arranged in advance for vulnerable witnesses, remand defendants and overseas parties.
