About Newcastle upon Tyne Crown Court
Newcastle Crown Court sits inside the Newcastle Law Courts, a purpose-built modernist complex completed in 1990 to the design of local practice Napper Collerton, located on the Quayside beside the River Tyne and in the shadow of the Tyne Bridge. The building also houses Newcastle upon Tyne Magistrates’ Court and the County Court, forming the Newcastle Combined Court Centre. Before the Law Courts opened, Crown Court business in the city was heard at the historic Moot Hall at Castle Garth, where assizes had been held for centuries. Today the court serves Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and parts of County Durham, taking indictable cases committed for trial or sentence from magistrates’ courts across the North East circuit.

Reading the Newcastle Crown Court Daily List
The Newcastle Crown Court daily list shown above is published the evening before each sitting day and updated on the morning of the hearing. Each entry typically displays the court number, sitting judge, case reference, defendant name, charge, hearing type (trial, sentence, PTPH, mention, appeal) and listed start time. Cases marked “not before” indicate the earliest time the hearing will be called on, while “for mention” usually means a short administrative hearing.
