The court serves the communities of Ashton-under-Lyne, Stalybridge, Hyde, Dukinfield, Mossley, Droylsden, and Denton. As one of the busiest magistrates' courts in the Greater Manchester region, Tameside court handles a high volume of criminal and summary cases each week, ranging from motoring offences and public order matters to theft, criminal damage, and drug-related charges. The court also processes cases under the Single Justice Procedure, where a single magistrate deals with minor offences on paper without a formal hearing.

Ashton-under-Lyne railway station, operated by Northern Trains, is also within walking distance. If you are driving, there is no dedicated car park at the court itself, but pay-and-display parking is available directly in front of the building, accessed via Stamford Street West.
