Court Building, History & Facilities

The current Swindon Law Courts building was designed by the Property Services Agency in the Modernist style and opened in 1985, built in red brick at a cost of £2.4 million. Before this purpose-built facility existed, Crown Court hearings for the Swindon area were held at other venues in Wiltshire. The building houses both the Crown Court and the County Court under one roof, which is why it is formally known as Swindon Combined Court Centre. Inside, there are multiple courtrooms equipped for jury trials, secure dock facilities, and separate waiting areas for witnesses and defendants. The court offers disabled access with lift facilities, a portable hearing enhancement system available by prior arrangement, and assistance dogs are welcome. Interview rooms and Prison Video Link facilities are also available.
